Why Mislabeled Food Products Still Slip Past Inspection

Imagine hearing, “uh oh, it happened again”, and finding out a batch of product is mislabeled only after palletized cases are stacked on the loading dock. Entire shipments get tied up, and staff have to manually inspect endless inventory, even though scanner logs show every label passed inspection with flying colors.

Consider a yogurt line switching over from strawberry to peach while strawberry lid rolls remain loaded. The scanner correctly identifies the label, but inspection accepts it because the software still expects the previous strawberry order.

At Softarex, we look beyond a successful scan to understand what the system is actually checking.

Why Alerts Are Only the First Step

For food packaging verification, we trace how order information reaches inspection and check whether it updates when the line changes products.

Finding one wrong lid can mean checking a lot more than just one cup. Our software includes the production order in the alert, helping the team work out which other packages may need checking.

Getting More Out of Your Current Hardware

Good news! You might not need new cameras. If your current scanner can tell label variants apart, connecting its readings to the active production order may provide the check that’s missing.

When the job requires reading printed words or checking visible package details, we assess whether the existing equipment can handle it or whether camera inspection needs to be added or changed.

A clear label read doesn’t guarantee the container was filled with the right product, and an automated alert won’t fix a mislabeled package by itself.

Caption: Connect label readings to the current production order, then test which mistakes inspection catches, how much review work it creates, and whether it slows the line.

Schedule a Manufacturing Systems Assessment to investigate how a wrong label could pass your inspection and identify the software or equipment changes worth testing.
