Solution

For a smart home solutions provider, Softarex has developed a Lighting Management Application* for software and hardware solution that enables our Client’s customers — owners of smart homes — to control their lighting from their mobile phones: turn it on and off, change the brightness, and more.

Our app initializes a set of multiple DALI ballasts, devices used to control the voltage, current, and waveform of electric discharge lamps, and provides a GUI (graphical user interface) that allows EnOcean wireless switches to be set to specific actions (turning on/off) for individual ballasts so that users can adjust the lighting with a single click of a button. Colorful icons and other visual indicators in the GUI make the management of lighting devices even more convenient for homeowners.

Technical challenges

Development of a powerful lighting management application that can control a set of up to 64 DALI ballasts;
Creation of a library for CoDeSys PLC to communicate with DALI and EnOcean devices via gateways;
Design of user interface on CoDeSys PLC to manage a set of up to 64 ballasts;
Implementation of EnOcean technology to control ballasts wirelessly;
Initialization of all ballasts’ addresses within no more than 5 minutes.
